Ronel's Story

From African Trails to Ladismith Tables, Ronel's Culinary Adventure!

Ronel’s story begins beneath the shadow of Towerkop, on a Ladismith farm. Dreams of horses led her to the UK, where she thrived as Headgirl at Kingston Riding Centre. Yet, Africa called her back. Trading saddles for safaris, she became a field guide, traversing East and Southern Africa. Seven years of overland journeys revealed her culinary passion, crafting three daily meals for twenty, using vibrant African ingredients.

Returning home, she managed a Vanwyksdorp lodge, mastering hospitality’s nuances, planning grand events miles from supplies. After seven years, Ladismith beckoned, and Java & Jam was born. Here, Ronel blends global experiences with local heart, offering a “Taste of Ladismith.” Each cup, each meal, reflects her journey: a blend of adventure, passion, and the love for her hometown.

Founders Ben and Sunel Ferreira's journey began in Uganda and South Sudan, where they discovered the heart of African coffee.

Their travels, gifting exceptional beans, sparked a vision. When war forced their return to South Africa’s Garden Route, Ben’s passion ignited. He mastered roasting, transforming his love into art. Each cup reflects his dedication, a rich, complex flavor reminiscent of African plains.
